Explorations in Typography - Mastering the Art of Fine Typesetting by Carolina de Bartolo with Erik Spiekermann.

Explorations in Typography: Mastering the Art of Fine Typesetting (A Visual Textbook for Intermediate to Advanced Typography) is a vast collection of beautiful typesetting examples. Page after page, a brief article by Erik Spiekermann has been set in hundreds of different ways in hundreds of different typefaces, creating an extended visual taxonomy of typesetting that allows you to “learn by looking.”

The book's website has a very cool interactive typesetting feature that allows you to play around with the two columns. The site was designed and developed by Gregory Cadars. The book is expected to ship in April 2011.

The only thing that may& stop me buying this book is the completely incorrect statement on the home page: computer screens have 72 pixels per inch, and as a result "an 8-point letter is actually made up of eight pixels". If this is actual text from the book, I'd be pretty disappointed. Most screens are way higher than 72 nowadays, the iPhone 4 is 326ppi for example.

Correction: silly me, of course this is just sample text from an older book :)

Judging by the preview of Explorations in Typography it does look rather neat!
